Cold weather is here and we can’t wait to layer with comfy, cozy clothes with a steamy Pumpkin Spice Latte around the fire. The trick to layering is picking clothes that are both functional and fashionable. You want to look cute, but you also want to stay warm when you’re outside in the chilly temps.
Your first cold weather layer should be form-fitting and regulate your body temperature like a basic t-shirt or long-sleeved shirt. The mid-layer should be a tad thicker, but not restricting like vests or sweaters. The outer layer needs to be a heavier piece, like a jacket, that complements your first two layers and makes the outfit look fabulous. You can’t forget the accessories—hats, scarves, gloves, and boots will look cute and keep you warm.
First Cold Weather Layer: Cozy Loungewear Set
Your first cold weather layer needs to be light and fit you snugly. Choose a solid color since you’ll only see a little bit of this layer, like at the neck, sleeve, cuff, or hemline. It’ll depend on your mid-layer as to how much your first layer shows.
Our cozy loungewear set gives you a casual-meets-cool look whether you’re spending a night at home or visiting a café with your friends. These easygoing, effortless tees and pants are cruelty-free, reliably comfortable, and remarkably on-trend.
The Rae T-Shirt
Coming in all kinds of cozy colors like Wisteria, Hickory, and Plum, The Rae is the perfect short-sleeve boyfriend tee to start your first cold-weather layer with. Plus, it’s made with post-consumer recycled water bottles, which keep them out of oceans and landfills.
Karima Pant
We booked you a one-way ticket to lounge town with Karima, a casual and cozy pair of pants made out of recycled French terry—cruelty-free with a sustainable spirit. With a classic straight-leg cut and side seam pockets, these are beyond comfortable and perfect for spending all weekend in them.
Cold Weather Mid-Layer: Sweaters, Hoodies, and Button-Downs
The mid-layer is maybe the most fun of layering. You can choose from vests, crop tops, sweaters, button-downs, blazers, cardigans, you name it. Everything is game with the mid-layer.
You can choose a textured or patterned material for this layer since more of this clothing will show. This layer also needs to fit well, but be comfortable enough when you wear it over your first layer.
We have three ideas for a fabulous mid-layer to keep you warm and looking sharp when you’re spending time with your friends.
Matea Mid-Length Sweatshirt
Choose from five solid colors, The Matea is a boyfriend crew neck sweatshirt that will put your boyfriend’s sweater to shame! It’s baggy in the best kind of way. It’s loose in all the right spots. And it’s soft, just like it should be. It’s the perfect layer to throw on and easily tie around your waist if you get too warm.
Rylee Cropped Hoodie
Another perfectly fitted, perfectly soft hoodie is The Rylee. It’s the ultimate cropped hoodie; a piece that you will want to reach for again and again.
Monik Mid-Length Shacket
Evoking a bit of a 90's vibe while staying on track with today's trends, Monik is casually cool, slightly oversized, and crafted in a soft woven fabric—pretty much the perfect fall piece, if you ask us.
With snap buttons in front and pockets for extra storage, Monik is just as much a jacket as a shirt. The style is designed in warm enough fabric for outdoor wearing, especially layered over some of your favourite pieces. We call it a shacket, but you might call it a must-have.
Cold Weather Outer Layer: Jacket
The outer layer is the most exposed layer, which not only keeps you warmest but ties your whole outfit together. The layer can be a coat, jacket, trench coat, shawl, or something in between.
Most of the time, we see longer jackets, but your outfit may need a cropped jacket to work with your other pieces. Choose to keep this layer open to expose the first and mid-layer, or button up and keep it a surprise for later.
We have several styles to choose from in jackets: fur, wool, parka, and leather. All vegan. All sustainably made.
Fur: Emelyn Long Length Faux Fur Coat
Outerwear goes glam in the Emelyn, a double-breasted, long-length fur coat. If you're looking for a little drama this season, step out wearing this striking style. Choose it in caramel, mocha, black, or moss.
Wool: Sophie Long Wool Coat
With its luxurious faux wool composition and long, clean lines, Sophie is the coat you’ll catch yourself slipping on no matter the occasion, destination, or weather. This lightweight layer comes from our Tezza and Cole capsule collection, a series of timeless essentials designed for changing seasons (Hello Fall).
Sophie’s look is completed with fashionable and functional elements, like its two lower patch pockets, complementing its single-breasted button closure. Perfect for then, now, and always.
Parka: Carmina Long Length Parka
Here’s Carmina, a cozy coat to get you through the chillier days. This style is cut to a longer length, keeping brisk temperatures at bay. We lined it with 100% Recycled REPREVE® fill, so it keeps you warm while being much kinder to the planet.
Leather: Fianna Cropped Vegan Leather Jacket
The Fianna is our take on a classic moto jacket, only ours is a cruelty-free alternative to the iconic style. You’ll feel as good about wearing it as you’ll look. Fianna is cropped higher than your natural waist and features an asymmetrical front zip closure along with a decorative chest zip for extra attitude. Along the sides of Fianna’s waistline, you’ll find tabs with snap buttons.
Accessories For Cold Weather Layering
Now that you know what you’re getting for your first, mid, and outer layer, let’s take a look at accessories. Use a scarf, hat, gloves, or boots to quickly complement your individual pieces and add an extra layer of fashion. If your outfit is mostly solids, consider wrapping a patterned scarf around your neck or colorful gloves to make your inner-most layer.
With accessories, you can take your everyday look to a night-on-the-town easily.
Kelsi Hat
We know you love a good beanie. Kelsi is knit in Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certified materials, giving you a soft and stretchy hat that withstands brisk weather. Spun in solid tonal fabrics, this style goes with just about any of your stylish outerwear.
Taylor Mittens
Meet Taylor, your cold weather season’s must-have mitten. This solid tonal style goes with just about any jacket you pair it with. Their stretchy and soft knit feels warm and cozy, perfect for the winter days that lie ahead and the Fall days we’re currently enjoying.
Olivia Knit Scarf
The Olivia scarf is knitted and tightly ribbed for ultimate comfort. Its sleek design is detailed with a contrasting hem, and its long silhouette means you can wrap it comfortably around your neck. Pair it with one of our faux wool coats, or an insulating parka.
Lolita Knit Scarf
If you want more of an exotic look, tap into the animal prints trend with our long Lolita scarf. This style features bold stripes and is tightly knitted for extra comfort. Wrap it around your neck, or let it fall effortlessly on your shoulders.
Emmi Puffer Bootie
Lace up confidently in our outdoor-ready cold-weather Emmi boots. Made from post-consumer recycled material and padded with our cozy recycled fill, Emmi is an outstanding choice for those who want something warm, ethical, and trendy.
Layering helps you stay warm, dry, and protected from the chilly cold weather. It also helps you let your fashion flag fly. Fall is the perfect season to experiment with different colors, textures, and patterns while also seeing how much layering is too much layering.
Whether you’re planning on visiting a pumpkin patch or meeting your girlfriends for a chai latte downtown, perfect your layering with the essentials that make you as stylish as you are comfy.
